Court & Small Claims Lawsuit...?

I went to court yesterday to sue my estranged husband for back rent of our apartment. Basically because he was in contract with the leasing company, the judge ordered him to pay 1003.00 immediately, however my ex said that he would appeal this. Does he have a shot? Will I be notified by the court that an appeal has been asked?
