Why do people still cheer for the Red Sox?

Honestly, why do Red Sox fanatics think this team is the best ever. I mean, really? 80-something years without a championship? And I know you complain that the only reason the Yanks won so much is because they have the highest payroll. Well, you have the second highest payroll in baseball, so you should have the second highest championship rate, right? Wrong! They suck...horribly. The most popular fan you have is Jimmy Fallon, and he's just as big an idiot as the rest of Boston. I just don't understand what the big pull is for this team. They're not the underdog anymore. Nobody feels sorry for them. They're just as arrogant as Yankee fans, but at least the Yanks can back it up with wins. Someone, please explain this to me!
