What drives Atheist pion against religion seekers?

Because atheists generally don't believe in an afterlife, they are unconcerned about any delusions others may hold about such things. However, the DO believe in the present life, and when their beliefs drive religious people to mangle the tools of social progress, atheists get resentful. It's something like, "Mess with my one and only life and I'll mess with your eternal salvation."
