Any ideas for a short story I could write based on one of Pablo Neruda's love poems?

why not on "and because love battles"? You could take the first verse and use it as the first lines of your story. Then just take what you think it means and make it into a story. But thst's just an idea. have fun with it and just do whatever you enjoy most. Hope this helps :P
